Why is there a dress code for Dance Classes?

Uniforms create unity and teamwork in the classroom. Uniforms minimize distractions and allow students to have their attention completely focused on the teacher. It also begins to teach and develop working as a group and team. When all students look the same, they are able to connect and be on the same page in class.

Professionalism and respect in the classroom is everything. When students walk into the classroom, they should already have a mindset that is ready to work, listen and respect. A neat & tidy appearance sets an attitude of attentiveness & respect for self, other students, teachers & the art of dance. A uniform allows teachers to see the dancer’s body outline clearly in order to make proper corrections on posture, alignment, etc.

For ALL classes:

Dancers need to have the specified shoes, tights and clothing.
Please note: we will enforce the dress code to help our dancers be successful in their genres.
Hair MUST be properly secured & tied up off of the face & neck for all styles of dance. Please reference the specified instructions below on proper hair for each genre
Jewelry MUST not be loose or dangling.
Gum chewing is PROHIBITED.
No costumes are allowed in class unless a dress up day is announced by the individual teacher or studio wide dress up day.

Acro

Sports Bras, leotard or tanks
Dance shorts or briefs
No loose clothing-Baggy clothing is not permitted
Boys can wear shorts and fitted tank (no t-shirts)
No shoes
Hair - bun or in a neat & tidy ponytail

Ballet

Black Leotard
Tights - ballet pink or tan, full toe or transitional, no cropped tights
Shoes - pink or tan Ballet shoes
Hair pulled back in a bun (high or low bun acceptable)

* This is NOT optional attire, please plan accordingly for layering if your classes are back to back

**Please note Teen Dancers can wear black ballet skirts or black dance shorts over leotards

Hip Hop

Sports Bras, crop tops, leotards, or tanks
Dance shorts, briefs or leggings
Regular street clothes that are loose and non-constricting
Sneakers or tennis shoes
Hair - Tidy ponytail

jazz

Sports Bras, crop tops, leotards, or tanks
Dance shorts, briefs or leggings
No loose clothing
Boys can wear loose shorts and fitted t-shirts or tanks
Tan Half sole shoes or full jazz shoes
Hair - bun or in a neat & tidy ponytail

Tap

Sports Bras, crop tops, leotards, or tanks
Dance shorts, briefs or leggings
No loose clothing
Boys can wear loose shorts and fitted t-shirts or tanks
Any style tap shoes
Hair - bun or in a neat & tidy ponytail

Lyrical/contemporary

Sports bras, crop top, leotards or tanks
Dance shorts or leggings
No loose clothing
Boys can wear loose shorts and fitted t-shirts or tanks
Tan Half sole shoes
Hair - bun or neat & tidy ponytail

tech/strength/conditioning

Sports bras, crop tops, leotards or tanks
